About Us

South Molton and District Volunteer Bureau (SMVB) is a volunteer car service for anyone who cannot provide their own transport to attend appointments for any medically related reason. This includes hospital, GP, dental, chiropractor, podiatry appointments etc. throughout Devon and beyond. SMVB has been established for over 25 years.

The Bureau runs its own car. However, most of our volunteers prefer to use their own cars and can be reimbursed accordingly.

 

Persons using the scheme are asked to pay 45p per mile plus a £2 admin surcharge for each journey. There are fixed rates for journeys within South Molton and from the town to North Devon Hospital.

 

All our volunteer drivers are DBS checked and must produce the following documentation annually to the trustees of the charity:

• their driving licence

• current vehicle MOT (if applicable)

• insurance covering the use of their vehicles for the transporting of individuals for medical appointments

 

Our drivers are all unpaid volunteers. Drivers will wait within the destination hospital area and then drive the return journey with the passenger.
